Health and Safety Policy — Pressure Washing Bayswater Services
This Health and Safety Policy defines the commitment of the company to safe delivery of pressure washing Bayswater and related exterior cleaning services. The policy applies to all personnel, contractors and visitors involved in high-pressure cleaning, power washing and associated site works. Its purpose is to minimise risk to people, property and the environment while ensuring compliance with statutory obligations and recognised industry standards. This document sets out responsibilities, safe work practices, environmental controls and the systems used to manage risks associated with pressure cleaning and rubbish-handling activities.
Scope and application cover domestic, commercial and light industrial pressure-wash services across our service area. The policy includes surface cleaning, graffiti removal, driveway and pavement cleaning, and the management of waste residues arising from cleaning operations. The organisation recognises the potential for contaminants and debris to be mobilised during cleaning; consequently, procedures for containment and cooperation with rubbish collection or disposal services are included as standard measures. All employees and contractors must follow these requirements without exception.

Responsibilities and Accountabilities
Management holds ultimate responsibility for health and safety and will ensure adequate resources, training and equipment are provided. Supervisors and team leaders are responsible for implementing safe systems of work and monitoring compliance during each job. Employees and subcontractors must take reasonable care of their own safety and that of others, report hazards, and use provided personal protective equipment. Key duties include:- Risk assessment: pre-start site surveys identifying hazards such as trip risks, unstable surfaces, traffic and hazardous substances;
- PPE and equipment: selection and maintenance of appropriate protective clothing, face and eye protection, hearing protection and anti-slip footwear;
- Environmental controls: containment and capture measures for wastewater, sediment and solid debris, and procedures for handover to waste/rubbish services where required.

Risk Management and Safe Work Practices
Risk controls follow a hierarchy: elimination, substitution, engineering controls, administrative controls and personal protective equipment. Before any pressure cleaning task begins, a documented risk assessment and method statement must be prepared and communicated. Controls include using low-impact detergents where possible, reducing nozzle pressure when cleaning delicate substrates, erecting barriers and signage to protect the public, and employing surface protection to prevent runoff into stormwater drains when appropriate.Equipment must be inspected daily and serviced at manufacturer-recommended intervals. Only trained operators may use high-pressure units, and permit-to-work procedures apply for tasks near overhead services or in confined spaces. When chemical cleaners are used, material safety data sheets must be available on site and safe handling procedures observed. Spill kits and appropriate absorbents must be carried to contain and clean up accidental releases promptly.
Training and competency form a core control. All operatives undertake induction training covering safe operation of pressure washers, correct use of nozzles and lance angles, ladder and elevated work safety, manual handling techniques and interaction with rubbish/waste removal processes. Refresher training and toolbox talks are scheduled to reinforce safe behaviours and to communicate changes in legislation, equipment or procedures. Supervisors will maintain training records and ensure competence before allocation to high-risk tasks.
Emergency response and incident management procedures are in place for medical emergencies, chemical exposure, fire and major spills. First aid kits and trained first aiders are available on every site. Incidents and near-misses must be reported immediately and recorded; investigations will identify root causes and corrective actions. Where incidents involve contamination or large volumes of waste, the organisation will coordinate with licensed rubbish removal and environmental contractors to ensure safe and compliant disposal.
Monitoring, review and continuous improvement underpin the policy. Routine site inspections, equipment checks and periodic audits evaluate compliance and performance. Records of permits, inspections, training and incident reports are retained in a secure system to support regulatory compliance and to inform regular management reviews. The policy will be reviewed at least annually or sooner if operational changes, new legislation, incidents or technological improvements warrant revision.
Contractor management requires that all third-party providers engaged for pressure washing, waste handling or related tasks demonstrate equivalent health and safety standards, hold appropriate insurance and licences where needed, and provide evidence of training and safe systems of work. Contractors must coordinate with on-site supervisors to ensure consistent controls and to prevent unsafe interactions between activities such as waste loading and high-pressure cleaning operations.
Environmental commitment: the company seeks to minimise downstream impacts from wash water and debris. Wherever feasible, water recycling, sediment separation and capture systems are used to reduce contaminant release. Any routine interface with a local rubbish service or waste collection contractor will be managed to ensure segregation of contaminated materials, proper manifesting of non-hazardous waste and safe transport to authorised facilities.
Policy implementation requires leadership, communication and engagement at all levels. Managers will allocate resources for protective equipment, training and procedural development. Employees are expected to challenge unsafe conditions and suggest improvements. This policy is a statement of intent and forms part of the organisation’s health and safety management system; it is applicable to all pressure cleaning operations and associated rubbish/waste activities undertaken by the company.
